As for the picture:

I cant agree with Rifty, I cant see any hope in the way he looks. It reminds me of my stay in Russia. The old flats looked just like this. I like the fact that this is a HDR photo: in a way that I cant really see it is one. The lighting isnt overdone, and you used it the way it should have been done (in my opinion ey ) I would like to see different poses, because Im not so sure about the gaze in his eyes. The first moment I look at it the photo is interesting and impressive. But after a few seconds, its already less interesting, because of his gaze. Maybe a sad look in the camera is more interesting? I dont know really. Lighting etc is in order

Nice shot, does not looks like an HDR; don´t really like the look on hes face, and looks like something covered the lens on the left lower corner, or it´s just a shadow, but shouldn´t be there....!!!

first of all sorry but it is no High Dynamic Range (HDR).
It is a HDR-CX6EK a videocam with high "deffinition"
...but If it would be one you would be right about the light
I also dislike too bright HDR´s as you do.
